Members of the Parliament Denktaş, Ataoğlu and Arabacıoğlu Visited EMU

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Member of the Parliament representing Democratic Party Serdar Denktaş, Member of the Parliament and Party Chairperson Fikri Ataoğlu and Former Member of the Parliament Dr. Mustafa Arabacıoğlu visited Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). The visit took place on Thursday, 27 August, 2020, at 2:30 p.m.. During the courtesy visit, views were exchanged on the state of higher education during the pandemic process.

"The Number of Students Placed at EMU Increased"

Speaking at the press conference held before the meeting, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın stated that they are happy to be hosting valuable politicians at EMU. Prof. Dr. Hocanın noted that according to the placement results of the 2020-2021 Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), EMU, as a state university, has increased the number of students placed compared to the previous year. Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated that the increase in the total number of students placed at EMU as a result of YKS is 26% compared to last year. Prof. Dr. Hocanın also put forth that as a result of the YKS, a total of 1,635 students have been placed in EMU.

“We Are Getting Ready For The New Academic Year"

Drawing attention to the fact that EMU ranks first in the number of students placed with equivalent grades through the YKS results, Prof. Dr. Hocanın said “In addition to our scholarship programs, our non-scholarship programs were also preferred. This is an indication of the interest shown towards our university's programs ”. Prof. Dr. Hocanın emphasized that the pandemic process has caused difficulties in higher education, but EMU is continuing to ensure the necessary preparations for the 2020-2021 Academic Year.

In his speech, Member of the Parliament from Democrat Party Serdar Denktaş stated that they are happy to be visiting EMU, which is the first university of the island. Denktaş stated that they are visiting the institution to extend their congratulations to the new administration of EMU and to exchange ideas.
