Published Date: Tuesday, 7 July 2020

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) each year plays host to students from a number of international universities it has agreements with, providing them both their quality education needs and experiences to remember. Within the scope of the student exchange program, Akbota Muratkyzy and Aygerim Niyetova came to EMU from Süleyman Demirel University which is situated at Kazakhstan’s Almaty district. Akbota Muratkyzy studied at EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Languages, Program of English Language Teaching and Aygerim Niyetova studied at EMU Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mathematics, Program of Mathematics and Computer Science for 2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Term. The students talked about their experiences in EMU. Also, the students have made a courtesy visit to EMU Rector’s Office before they have left the university.

The Students Thanked EMU For The Support During Pandemic

Despite the difficulties faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, stating they had a positive experience at EMU and in Cyprus, Akbota Muratkyzy explained how they were glad that EMU quarantined very quickly, protecting the health and safety of all of the students and staff, and that the food packages and support received by EMU during the pandemic process was a great help and that they were well looked after during this difficult time.

“EMU Has An Amazing Campus”

Akbota Muratkyzy studying English Language Teaching at EMU during the 2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Term, stated that the methods of teaching applied here by the instructors were different from the methods applied in Kazakhstan, and that she found them more effective. “I chose to come to EMU because I am learning Turkish as a second language, so I knew being in Cyprus would help my learning, and it has. When I came to the campus I was shocked, as it is like a city, with many restaurants and shops. Our university in Kazakhstan is nice and modern, but it is just one big building.” Muratkyzu also explained, “Due to the pandemic we didn’t get much time to travel Cyprus as much as we had liked to, however we have been to the beach many times, and this we will miss the most, and the hot weather, as Kazakhstan is very cold.”
